"The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe." Proverbs 18:10
Why?
Consider that "name" ("šēm" H8034 Strongs [1]) is representative of a "definite and conspicuous position" marking individuality in the context of authority and character. In other words, a "name" is more than a label designating individuality, it encompasses individual character and authority, the WHOLE of one's being.
Grasp that and the vividness of the "name of the Lord" being a "strong tower" to which the righteous cleave is much more vivid in meaning.
God Almighty is the ultimate "be all and end all" (ie. first and the last as described in scripture) and is therefore the proper function and anchor of reality. Hence it is prudent for us to cleave to that reality, to align ourselves with that proper function, to order ourselves in accordance with truth. It's the only place of true safety.
Is it any wonder Jesus of Nazareth claimed to be "THE way, THE truth, and THE life?"
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6
Is it any wonder that the Apostle John identified God with love and that those whom truly abide in love abide in God?
"And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him." 1Jn 4:16
Whereupon the Apostle John went on to speak of the security found in such an abiding reality...
"Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world." 1Jn 4:17
Again...
"The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe." Proverbs 18:10
It's true! It's the anchor of the soul, the root being the very Word of God (ie. Joh 1:1), the Light that lighteth ALL men (Joh 1:9) and empowers unto salvation ALL whom will receive it.
"Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls." Jam 1:21
ALL whom will run to the name of the Lord, to the authority and character, to be conformed and abide. It's what real Christianity is all about.
